Expulsion of the Jews from Frankfurt on August 23, 1614, after riots in the „Jews Street“ led by Vincent Fettmilch. According to the text, „1380 persons old and young were counted at the exit of the gate“ and herded onto ships on the river Main. Jews were connected in business to the city’s wealthy merchants, while Fettmilch led the small craftsmen and traders opposed to the Jewish presence in Frankfurt. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Weiterlesen

Jobbik (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Csanád Szegedi (born 22 September 1982) is a Hungarian nationalist politician and elected Member of the European Parliament with the Jobbik – Movement for a Better Hungary.

Szegedi was born in Miskolc. His father, Miklós Szegedi, is a famous wood carving sculptor, and his mother, Katalin Molnár (Meisels), is a software engineer

Prior to the revelation of Szegedi’s partial Jewish origin, Szegedi was notorious for his incendiary comments about Jews.[4] In 2007, he was a founding member of the Hungarian Guard, a group with black uniforms and striped flags reminiscent of the Arrow Cross, a pro-Nazi party during WWII. The Hungarian Guard was banned in 2009, at which time Szegedi joined the Jobbik party, the country’s biggest far-right political force. Since 2009, he has served in the European Parliament in Brussels

In June 2012, Szegedi revealed that he had recently learned that his grandparents on his mother’s side were Jewish: his maternal grandmother survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, and his maternal grandfather was a veteran of forced labor camps. Under Jewish law this makes Szegedi a Jew. Szegedi was raised Hungarian Reformed and does not practice the Jewish religion. Szegedi said he defines himself as someone with „ancestry of Jewish origin — because I declare myself 100 percent Hungarian.“ Weiterlesen

Russian mob’s Jewish godfather

Former senior member of Berlin Jewish community arrested for allegedly heading one of Russia’s largest organized crime groups
Eldad Beck
BERLIN – Mikhail Rabo was a senior member of the Jewish community in Berlin and for a short while even represented it in Germany’s Jewish communities committee. But it seems Rabo was also busy heading another organization – the Russian mob.

Rabo, 55, was arrested last Thursday in Germany’s capital under a European arrest warrant issued against him following a large-scale raid on 20 Russian mobsters in Spain commissioned by the Spanish police.

During the extensive police operation, the Berlin police detained 20 members of the Tambov-Malyshev (Tambovskaya-Malyshevskaya) gang, considered the largest mafia organization in Russia and one of the four largest organized crime organizations in the world. According to German newspapers, Rabo was the gang’s deputy chief as well as its Berlin representative.

Rabo’s arrest was executed in the Charlottenburg district in West Berlin near his office. Later on, the Berlin police raided Rabo’s residence in the prestigious Grünwald district in which he had been living with his second wife. A native of St. Petersburg, Rabo is charged with money laundering, falsifying corporate documents and racketeering.

The German weekly newspaper Focus reported that a few senior members of the organization recently gathered in Berlin to celebrate Rabo’s birthday. Among the guests were the organization’s Chief Alexander Malyshev, who was also arrested during the police operation in Spain in mid June. The German intelligence services told Focus that Rabo’s birthday was a cover up for a meeting held by the gang’s heads to “discuss professional matters.”

According to the Spanish police findings, Rabo was Malyshev’s second-in-command as well as his business partner. Spanish authorities appealed to have Rabo extradited to Spain, to be ruled by the German court in the coming days.

The Jewish community was shocked by the accusations being held against Rabo. “I would have never considered Rabo to be affiliated with such activity,” a senior community source told Yedioth Ahronoth on Sunday.

David Friedländer

David Friedländer, sometimes spelled Friedlander (16 December 1750, Königsberg – 25 December 1834, Berlin) was a German Jewish banker, writer and communal leader.

Friedländer settled in Berlin in 1771. As the son-in-law of the rich banker Daniel Itzig, and a friend, pupil, and subsequently intellectual successor of Moses Mendelssohn, he occupied a prominent position in both Jewish and non-Jewish circles of Berlin. His endeavors on behalf of the Jews and Judaism included the emancipation of the Jews of Berlin and the various reforms connected therewith. Frederick William II, on his accession, called a committee whose duty was to acquaint him with the grievances of the Jews, Friedländer and Itzig being chosen as general delegates. But the results of the conference were such that the Jews declared themselves unable to accept the reforms proposed, and not until after the French Revolution, with the edict of March 11, 1812, did the Jews then living on Prussian territory succeed in obtaining equal rights from Frederick William III.

Friedländer and his friends in the community of Berlin now turned their attention to the reform of worship in harmony with modern ideas and the changed social position of the Jews. The proposition in itself was perfectly justified, but the propositions of Friedländer, who had meanwhile been called (1813) to the conferences on the reorganization of the Jewish cult held in the Jewish consistory at Cassel, were unacceptable to even the most radical members, as they tended to reduce Judaism to a mere colorless code of ethics.
